Neuschwanstein Castle

Built by Mad King Ludwig in the late 19th century, the castle is the inspiration for similar confections at the Disney parks. The king focused all his energy on opera and building, and neglected that whole government part of his job. As the kingdom was going bankrupt, his ministers found a psychologist who had him declared insane and removed him from power. He died less than two years after his fantasy palace was finished.
